THE TREATMENT

In order to estimate the state of health, simple dynamic systems such as Yin and Yang, Kyo and Yitsu and the five phases of transformation are used for the diagnosis.(1) The pair of opposites Kyo and Yitsu describes physical and energetic qualities and states in the body and in the meridians. Above all, Kyo means emptiness, lack and concealment. Jitsu means abundance, abundance, and surface.(2) Comprehension is understanding and uses all sources of perception.(3) Of particular importance is touch-finding, which is referred to in Japanese as Setsu Shin.(4) Mon Shin is the finding through a conversation. Bun Shin stands for the perception of the sense of smell and hearing. Bo Shin describes the consideration of posture, facial expressions and so on.

Shiatsu treatment is usually done on the floor or on a mat. The clients rest in their abdominal, back, side or sitting position.

Rockings, rolling, stretching, rotating, tapping, or simply holding or stimulating a pressure point are performed on the thumb, palms, elbows, forearms, knees, and feet. The movement is always applied from the hara (middle), in centering.(5)
